6.5 EARHTQUAKE SHAKE IN LEYTE PHILIPPINES

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake shake the central Philippines Thursday at 4:03 p.m.



The quake centered eight kilometers southwest of Jaro town on Leyte Island, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

There were no immediate  injuries from the inland tremor that hit at a shallow depth of two kilometers.

Phivolcs said that damage was expected from the quake.

The agency said no tsunami warning was raised.

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake kill at least one person inside a collapsed building with more people feared trapped inside, a local official said.

Rescuers were rushing to the town of Kananga where a three-storey commercial building collapsed as the tremor struck the central island of Leyte, town mayor Rowena Codilla told DZBB radio.
